● What makes one coffee source so much better than another for YOU the end consumer?
● What sets Kona Comfort Coffee apart from so many of the other farms and outlets?
1.
Does the farm you are considering buying from operate ONE normal sized plot of land (about 5-15 acres)?
It is unlikely you will get the same hand's on quality control from farms with multiple plots & properties.
Bigger is not always better. Mass produced is not likely beneficial to high quality living natural products.
Direct from our farm to you the taste you will experience is superior to big outfit mass produced quantities.
2.
Is the coffee you are considering roasted, bagged, then LEFT SITTING in a store room or on a store's shelf?
Kona Coffee needs about two days to degas once it is roasted, and that can happen on its way to you.
At that point it is at its very freshest and peak.
You should choose a farmer that can process your coffee and ship it out to you without time lapses and delays.
3.
Is the coffee you are considering ROASTED BY THE FARMER who grew it?
A farmer who roasts his own coffee takes personal care and knows how to repeat his proven roast methods.
If roasting is contracted out, it likely sits stored afterwards & as orders are made then it is shipped.
Kona Coffee delivered within four days after roasting is the most prime, a week later it is no longer prime.
4.
Does the farmer have "live" direct control over his tree care, picking, processing, storage, bagging, & shipping?
An absentee, "hobby" or "part residence" farmer cannot really have direct control (be in two places at one time).
At any or several of these steps, lack of control can result in much lower quality to the end coffee product.
Living on the farm that actually produces our Kona Coffee, there is no "Cat Away for the Mouse to Play."
5.
Does the farmer use chlorine treated water?
We use natural Hawaiian mountain rainwater that is filtered and UV treated without any chemical additives.
We feel chlorine can affect the flavor of the beans, and why should coffee be subjected to chlorine in any case?
Do you really want chlorine in your food products?
6.
Does the company store their dried coffee as green bean, then roast it when their customers order it?
Roasters that store their coffee as green beans do not use the best processing option.
For the best cup of coffee, the beans should be stored as parchment, THEN ON DEMAND hulled, roasted, &
shipped. That's the method we use, and what we would want for our own personal stash!
(If you are buying from a small coffee shop or coffee outlet that roasts on-site, green beans are the logical stage for
them to store and process on site, for they frequently re-order their green beans to keep their stock fresh.)
7.
Does the company selling the coffee to you actually have a farm? Are they operating from Hawaii (Big Island)?
There are some companies that sell Kona Coffee yet they don't have a farm.
There are websites that look like they operate on the Big Island but that's not really the case.
The big deal is direct control and responsibility for ALL the steps, without that the end result is scary to predict.
8.
Is the company selling the coffee actually located in the Kona Coffee Belt?
Some businesses put "Hawaiian" on their labels and imply their coffee is "Kona" .
Kona Coffee only comes from a small narrow band of lands in the South and North Kona areas of The Big Island.
Other Hawaiian coffees will not have the same expected flavor profile.
"Apples and Oranges" would more be like Apples and Cucumbers.
9.
Does the company selling the coffee actually have Coffee Trees?
Yep, believe it or not, some "Farms" sell Kona Coffee attaching their label to other people's product.
Some have relabeled Kona Coffee and won awards with product not even their own!
If the seller is relabeling (1) they can't know the quality first hand, (2) it's likely not shipped fresh at its peak to you.
10.
Does the farm or company use pesticides or herbicides?
We feel chemicals eventually find their way into the cells of the product and then into your cells.
Excellent Kona Coffee can be found from farmers who do not use these chemicals!
Ask, or look for the "Organic" labels.
11. Is the coffee farm CERTIFIED ORGANIC? Is the coffee you drink processed by a CERTIFIED ORGANIC
FACILITY?
We comply with rigid standards and have written authorization that authenticates us as an Organic Farm.
We ourselves are ALSO an authorized Organic Processor; we therefore maintain our product Organic throughout.
